Zhilky eti! Yummy! No blog of Kazakhstan would be complete without a little horsemeat. Here, you can see various parts of the poor horse hanging, as well as kazi, a horse sausage that Kazakhs consider a delicacy. The ladies here will make your horse sausage while you watch, meaning they will take intestine casings and stuff them with meat, spices, garlic and so on. It is not for the faint of heart!
All this takes place in the Kok bazaar (green bazaar), the biggest and most interesting central market in the city. (There's an even bigger market, Baraholka, on Almaty's outskirts). Alas, my camera batteries konked out right after this picture (the horse meat was too much), so I'll try to return to the Kok bazaar soon for more pictures.
