My parents and I arrived in Bukhara after a long hot drive across the desert from Khiva. We first visited the tomb of Bakhautdin Naqshband, the 14th century founder of one of the most important Sufi orders in Central Asia. This shrine is revered as one of Central Asia's most holiest sites.... I should add that the culture of the last two cities on our trip, Bukhara and Samarkand, differs substantially from the rest of Uzbekistan. Both Bukhara and Samarkand are majority Tajik cities and, although Tajik is not taught in the schools, most city dwellers speak Uzbek, Tajik and Russian.
